Here on this post, Jonathan DuBose Sr is the center of the celebration. For without his dedication and commitment to gospel music, Jonathan Jr, Kenneth Sr, and author Anne` DuBois would not be who they have become. Jonathan DuBose Sr set the musical foundation for his children and their children's children.

Generation by Generation - The DuBose Inheritance!

October 7th, 2015

Spoken Word - To Be or Not to Be ~ Anne` DuBois

(Soundtrack)

Heredity is the passing on of characteristics from one generation to the next. It is the reason why offspring look like their parents. It also explains why cats always give birth to kittens and never puppies. The process of heredity occurs among all living things including animals, plants, bacteria, protists and fungi. The study of heredity is called genetics.

______

A gene gives only the potential for the development of a trait. How this potential is achieved depends partly on the interaction of the gene with other genes. But it also depends partly on the environment."

______

Authors Comments | After watching a movie entitled 'The Inheritance'. The impact on my soul was deeply impressed by the reality of the scenes televised. Yes, the tail was fiction by all accounts a horror flick at that. But it did shed a light on this very fact. Our ancestors either created for us a heaven or hell on earth experience according to the environment one evolved in.

______

After looking back and thinking about all the many times we have had family reunions and the many blessings that have been bestowed in the archives of history with certain members of the family. Solely based on the development of certain skills and talents including a lovely and nurturing environment. Fate would not allow me to rest, without publicly "giving thanks" for my parent parents and their parents. Thankful for those who paved the way for this generation and the generations to come to have a better and wellbeing life. And the story continues!

From the looks of it, the grandson, namely Dawson is walking in his grandfathers footsteps. What a blessing and wonderful legacy Clifford DuBose left his family and friends. The legacy of sports and playing baseball in the little league and perhaps the major leagues. In addition, in 2014 a field was named in honor of the Late Clifford DuBose . Click link to read the article about most auspicious accomplishment.

During this birthday season, we had to pause and give honorable mention to the life and living legacy that yet remains in his offspring. I know that Chansler DuBose along with all the DuBose clan in Alabama and  aboard are so very proud of the foundation which was by the Late Clifford DuBose.

Scan the liner notes of a gospel CD and chances are you will see the name of Jonathan DuBose Jr. listed among the musicians.

Not surprising: DuBose has been an in-demand guitarist in the sacred and secular music arenas for many years.

DuBose recently spoke with the Journal of Gospel Music about his beginnings, where his career has taken him thus far, and his passion for “C.A.U.S.”

Beginnings in Bridgeport (Jonathan DuBose Jr)
Born December 12, 1960, DuBose first picked up the guitar at age four when his mother and father, quartetter Jonathan DuBose Sr. of the Sensational Starlights of Bridgeport, Connecticut, would take him to the quartet’s weekend engagements.

While the audience was soaking in the Starlights’ tight harmonies, young Jonathan was listening intently to the guitar players, one in particular.

“My uncle Willie Edmond played the guitar in such a way that it made me want to be like him,” DuBose recalled. “Uncle Willie played with reverb and tremolo. He used a tremolo bar, or what we call a ‘whammy bar.’ He produced a reverb chamber echo sound. That’s what piqued my interest, and to this day, I play with echo and reverb.”

Secular musical influences DuBose picked up along the way, mostly from his mother’s side of the family, included Sam Cooke, James Brown, and Archie Bell and the Drells. “I became familiar with secular music as well as gospel music.”

From listening to performing: at age eight, DuBose took the stage with the Sensational Starlights. “One day the guitar player, Benny Graham, couldn’t make it. I sat in for him and before you know it, I started to play live. Then somebody else saw me play and asked my father, ‘Could your son play for us?’ My father said, ‘Sure…if you guys pay him!’

“The more people who heard me play, the more my service and presence was requested. That’s how I started getting out.”  View and read the entire interview on Journal of Gospel Blog.
